OOC PERMISSIONSDo not wants: I will not thread with P5X characters, or any players that use GenAI for icons or writing. Backtagging: In games, if a thread has not been tagged back within two weeks I will consider it dropped, unless we have communicated OOCly and the thread is mutually important. I prefer to have game threads wrapped within roughly one month of starting, to be able to keep up with the next month's events. If we've been tagging the thread consistently but it doesn't look like it's going to wrap up after a month has passed, I will reach out so we can handwave an ending. In some cases (key CR, very important event threads, etc.) I will continue beyond the month mark, however the maximum amount of time I will backtag any game thread is two months, without exception. For memes/PSLs, I consider a thread that has not been tagged back in more than two months to be dropped. If you'd like to continue a thread after more than two months, please let me know! I will keep a meme/PSL thread going forever and backtag in perpetuity, but when it hits long stretches of time like that between tags, I do need some kind of communication to know if it's something you're interested in continuing. Threadhopping: Text threads, go for it! Action threads, let's talk first to establish a tag order. Fourthwalling: Characters with knowledge of Eldritch gods/Lovecraftian mythos are free to recognize Azathoth, discuss Lovecraft, etc. No other fourthwalling beyond that. Tag style: I default to brackets, but I don't mind if we don't match. Feel free to use prose if you want. Offensive subjects/triggers: There's nothing specific I avoid or need warning for. Feel free to use CWs at your own discretion. IC PERMISSIONS, WARNINGS, DNWSPhysical affection: Yes please, he desperately needs it. Platonic affection is especially loved. Flirting: Go for it, but do not expect instant reciprocation or any smooth talking whatsoever. He can be quite clueless. Romance: Absolutely, I love to ship him. In a game setting, due to his many hang-ups it would be slower burn by default, but in memes/PSLs I'm happy to jump right in. See shipping preferences below for more information! Mindreading: Yes, please get in there, whether he's aware of it or not! Always happy to give you extra details that your character would be able to glean from his mind palace (literally.) Manipulation: Who manipulates the manipulator? Go for it! Fighting: Sure! Without his Persona he's a total wimp, with it he's a total beast. If a thread is heading in that direction, let's talk. Injury: Generally, yes! His Persona can heal him so I'm down for him getting messed up in most situations, but if a thread is heading in that direction, let's talk. Killing: Only in specific circumstances! If it comes up, we will have already talked extensively. Canon warnings: The story of Persona 5 Royal runs the gamut of potentially triggering topics - manipulation, neglect, physical assault, sexual assault, murder, suicide, on and on. The extent to which Maruki is aware of each of these happenings in canon varies, but all have the potential to come up as topics. Maruki's background specifically deals with murder, PTSD and brainwashing. Do not wants: I will not play out any extended threads/AUs wherein Maruki needs to help someone through legitimate severe mental illness or its symptoms (PTSD, dissociation, etc.), abuse, or self-harm/suicidality - while the topics themselves do not bother me, I find these threads more exhausting and stressful than anything else. Additionally, in a game setting, I prefer for any counseling/trauma sharing threads to be brought on by game events (ex. a hanahaki event making characters talk about painful things they wouldn't normally share.) I am not interested in threads where characters come to Maruki for counseling about their canon issues without a game event prompting it. BACKGROUNDFormer cognitive psience (P5R psychobabble for the study of how we perceive things and the way our perceptions shape reality) researcher turned high school counselor. A genuinely kind, generous, altruistic man who wears his heart on his sleeve and will bend over backwards to help anyone with anything. A little silly and sardonic at times, a LOT incurably nerdy all the time. Has a preternatural way of setting people at ease and getting them to open up. Pathological avoidance of emotional pain. All around good guy. Please note that while all of the above is true, Maruki is also an antagonist in the series for a reason. He lies, manipulates, gathers and uses information strategically. The extent to which he does this varies depending on his canon point (and development if it's in a game setting) but the gears of manipulation are more or less always turning beneath the surface. If you do not want to interact with a character who presents as entirely normal and friendly but has the capacity to be the antagonist that he is, please use my opt out post. ABILITIESCognitive Psience: While this isn't an ability in and of itself, it does inform the rest of the abilities below. Maruki is a former cognitive psience researcher who dedicated his life to using cognitive psience to heal people. This background means he knows a lot about the mutable nature of reality, perception, thoughts/beliefs/wishes impacting reality, the cognitive world, the collective unconscious, etc. Initial Persona: Azathoth Ultimate Persona: Adam Kadmon Offensive capabilities: Mostly focused on heavy/colossal physical and almighty damage to one/multiple foes. Some nuke/bless attacks as well. Can inflict forget, fear or dizzy with some attacks. Can buff both magic and physical attacks. Defensive capabilities: Three tentacles that can be killed off to debuff him but will regenerate. Tentacle of Protection increases his defense, Tentacle of Healing restores his HP, Tentacle of Assistance can either buff an ally's attack or decrease a foe's attack or defense. Actualization: Azathoth's power allows Maruki to alter a person's cognition by removing the source of their pain/trauma and granting them their wish for an ideal life. If you're thinking this sounds a lot like brainwashing and loss of free will, congratulations! It is. Whatever would make a character live a happy, painless life, Maruki can make it happen. If he has access to the collective unconscious, he can essentially rewrite all of reality. This power is incredibly OP and the possibilities are truly limitless; I will never do anything with his actualization power without extensive player discussion and consent, and it does not work at all in any game settings. SHIPPING PREFERENCESOpen to M/M, M/F or M/NB! Kink list is here. Persona Faves: Joker, Adachi, Iwai, Zenkichi, Ichinose, Dojima, Sae, Takemi, Chihaya, Shibusawa, Rumi. However, I will only play Marushu with Joker players who I personally know well - please do not hit me up for Marushu on memes if we don't know each other. Yes: Almost everyone else honestly, exceptions below! I've played P3 & P4, and have passing familiarity with P1 & P2, so all cross-Persona ships are gucci with me. No thank you: Kawakami, Ikutsuki, P5X characters, Mishima, any AU-based Persona characters unless we have previously discussed. Cross-canon Maruki tends to bounce best off characters who have more dominant personalities and who don't want to dump all their baggage on him/get him to fix them. He will always default to trying to put all the emotional focus on the other party, so characters who can steer him away from that and even the playing field between them are perfect. Other freaks and weirdos are especially loved, extra bonus points if they can also manipulate reality and meet him on that crazy level. When playing on memes, for new cross-canon ships I generally prefer generic jamjar assumed CR situations over in-depth canon blending, but if you have an idea for the latter please let me know! I am not interested in playing him in any ships where he is counseling or doing a highly unbalanced amount of emotional labor for the other party. LABYRINTHUMCanon point: May 2024 - September 2025: December 24, immediately after his Persona manifested physically on the day of reckoning. October 2025 - present: March 19, immediately after dropping Akira off at the train station. Housing: A machiya far away from town in Somnius, shared with Akechi, Akira, Chihaya, and (part-time) Eren, as well as a cat named Korokke. Considered a part-time resident at Eren's farm. He, Eren and Akechi also have a safehouse in Stellari that they keep secret from all other CR; they rarely stay there, it's for emergencies only. Occupation: Blissfully unemployed, though he still owns his counseling practice, Eyn Sof. Crystal: Golden hematoid quartz, on a small pendant that he has pinned close to the neckline of whatever top he's wearing. Potion: His initial potion was blue, he did not drink it. After learning what the potions do, he gave it to Akechi to get out some of his frustration post-moon interrogation and Akechi threw it at a building. He has since obtained a gold potion and is now able to transform into a mourning dove. Powers regained: Azathoth, with full moveset and all three support tentacles.
